New BMW M2 vs BMW M240i: DRAG RACE

It’s time for the all-new BMW M2 to go head-to-head against the M240i! Now before getting into the stats you’d be forgiven for assuming the M2 would walk this. After all, the M240i is effectively a BMW M2 ‘lite’, right? Well, this one may be closer than you think.

So let’s see how they compare. First up we have the M240i. It’s powered by a 3-litre turbocharged six-cylinder engine that can produce 374hp and 500Nm of torque. This power is delivered to all four wheels, and it weighs in at 1,690kg. If you’re looking to pick one up, it’ll cost around £49,000.

Then we have the BMW M2. It comes with the same 3-litre twin-turbo straight-six as found in the latest M3, but the output has been dialled down slightly, so it’ll produce 460hp and 550Nm of torque. This power is delivered to the rear wheels only, and it tips the scales at 1,725kg. If you’re looking to buy one new, it’ll set you back around £65,000.

So the new M2 may have more power, but not only is it more expensive, it’s heavier and doesn’t come equipped with four wheel drive! Could that prove to be its downfall? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!
