In this video we have got a BMW M340i, M340d & 330e, and they’re going head-to-head to see just how different the performance is of a petrol, diesel & plug-in hybrid 3 Series. However, they’re not all stock – each car has had a stage one tune! So let’s see how they compare.

Starting with Mat in the M340d Touring, it’s powered by a 3-litre straight-six diesel that can now put down 430hp and 850Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox, and it weighs in at 1,945kg.

Next up we have the M340i. It’s equipped with a 3-litre straight-six petrol, and it now puts down 470hp and 630Nm. Like the diesel power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox, and it weighs in at just 1758kg.

Then finally we have the 330e. It’s equipped with a 2-litre turbocharged 4 cylinder coupled with an electric motor, and these combine to put down 400hp and 700Nm. Power is only sent to the rear wheels only via an 8-speed automatic gearbox, and it’s also the lightest car here, tipping the scales at scales at 1,740kg.
